Class Poem
“We, we are a kingdom”
by Olamide Theodore Olugbemi

I look at these faces and see kings and queens
my brothers,
my sisters,
my hands and a dream, meant to hold us
like mother meant to hold us like the trophies we’ve become.

and what have we become?
we are the glory, we are the dream -
everything in between has been for a brighter sense of
seeing where we’ll go after we walk out of our former
home -

and we are not alone!
and so it seems I owe my self to you -
every breath I breathe, and every word that I speak,
Let it penetrate the very hearts that have opened my own -

this - this is your home.
this heart beats for the souls that’ve been
as broken as mine.
Our time is now-
And I am yours.

and as I stand with memories in my hand and
good faith in my fingertips, I’ll raise a banner
and dedicate it to you - do not ever assume that I’ll forget you.

Manchester High School, Class of 2010 -
we graduate in the name of our victory -
because we are the victory,
we are the pioneers,
and we-
we are a kingdom.
and long live us all
because I love you.
