Students focus on community service Published: January 28, 2009 content courtesy Betsy Latham Millwood School students are staying focused on helping their community. Several recent service projects have enabled them to reach out to others and develop the “habit of helping” that is a hallmark of Millwood School. Pet toys, leashes, collars, and blankets were collected and donated to Fetch A Cure that cares for homeless dogs and cats. The ASPCA of Richmond will soon be receiving at least 900 lbs. of pet food. Millwood Youth Leaders are sponsoring this program, asking students to bring in cat or dog food that will benefit the residents of the ASPCA. Millwood’s seventh grade students and Cell Phones for Soldiers sponsored a collection of cell phones which will be sent to a recycling center. Cell Phones for Soldiers gives an hour’s worth of calling card minutes for every recycled cell phone. ![]() Cell Phones for Soldiers hopes to turn old cell phones into more than 12 million minutes of prepaid calling cards for U.S. troops stationed overseas in 2008. To do so, Cell Phones for Soldiers expects to collect 15,000 cell phones each month through a network of more than 3,000 collection sites across the country. Should you have a cell phone that you would like to donate, please bring it by Millwood School between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. |
