Midlothian Ruritan Club monthly meeting will be held at the Mt. Friday, Nov. 21
Holiday Bazaar Preview Night from 6 - 9 pm, at Saint Gertrude High School, located at 3215 Stuart Ave., Richmond. The preview shopping night, featuring a wine and cheese reception, is sponsored by the sophomore class of Saint Gertrude High School; seasonal and unique gifts from local artisans and vendors; jewelry, pottery, holiday decor and other unique gift items. Saturday, Nov. 22
The Midlothian Ruritan Club begins its annual Christmas Tree sale.  The proceeds help fund the club and the club’s numerous community projects.  The tree lot is at the old Wallo Antiques location across from Arby’s on Midlothian Turnpike in the Village of Midlothian.  Fraser Fir trees, wreaths and garland will be sold.  Hours will be 1:30 - 8:30 pm during the week and 10 am - 8:30 pm on the weekends.  For further information contact David Nelms at (804) 379-1294.

Saint Gertrude High School Holiday Bazaar, 9 am - 2 pm, at Saint Gertrude High School, located at 3215 Stuart Ave., Richmond.  A holiday marketplace sponsored by the sophomore class of Saint Gertrude High School features seasonal and unique gifts from local artisans and vendors; jewelry, pottery, holiday decor and other unique gift items; fantastic door prizes. Nov. 22 - 23
The 26th Annual Holly Days Bazaar sponsored by Powhatan #146 & Midlothian #85 Chapters - Order of the Eastern Star will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, from 9 am - 5 pm and Sunday, noon - 4 pm at Powhatan Elementary School, located at 4111 Old Buckingham Road (Rt. 13) just off Rt.60 in Powhatan. Artists and crafters will have for sale many handmade items, such as: jewelry, wood toys, candles, baskets, quilts, hand painted items, jams, baked goods, handmade clothing, and the list goes on and on. Proceeds go to Powhatan #146 & Midlothian #85 Chapters, Order of the Eastern Star, which is a beneficent organization that contributes to charitable causes. David Yurman Event at Schwarzschild Jewelers, Alverser Plaza location, for VCU Massey Cancer Center from 6 pm - 8 pm/ Enjoy food, drink, fun and JEWELRY all in the name of a great cause! This invitation only event features a unique bracelet by David Yurman. Only 25 bracelets will be made available! Other items from David Yurman’s collection will also be on display and available for purchase with 10% of the proceeds being donated by David Yurman and an additional 10 percent donated by Schwarzschild Jewelers to the Women & Wellness event to support breast cancer research at Massey. Parade of Lights (5:30 p.m.) Henricus Historical Park. Start your holiday season with festivities at Henricus Historical Park. Watch as brightly “decked” boats pass by the bluff of Henricus, the terminus point for the James River Parade of Lights. Tour the 1611 Citie of Henricus and talk with settlers about their lives and the holidays in the 17th century. Free of charge.

Sunday, Dec. 7
Jake’s Reindeer Race, at Innsbrook Picnic Area located at 4600 Cox Rd., Glen Allen, will take place at 2 pm. This is a non-competitive, family-friendly 5k run/walk and family fun walk to benefit pediatric cancer research and programs for children with cancer. The race is named for Jake Maynard, who was diagnosed with a rare foot cancer at age 5. Festive attire is encouraged. This is a self-timed event only.
Proceeds from this year’s race will go to pediatric cancer research at VCU Massey Cancer Center, pediatric sarcoma research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and the pediatric cancer literature programs at VCU Children’s Medical Center and Bon Secours’ Noah’s Children.

Monday, Dec. 8
JTCC hosts Philosophy for Lunch series “Does the Mind Extend beyond the Body?” Associate Professor Brie Gertler, head of cognitive science at the University of Virginia will be the speaker. Talk begins at noon at the college’s Chester Campus. Located at 13101 Jefferson Davis Hwy, in Bird Hall Room B132. Admission free and open to the public.

Sunday, Dec. 14
Core, a Community of Retailers, is sponsoring a Holiday House Tour to benefit Family Lifeline from 12:30 – 4:30 pm. Visitors will have the opportunity to tour five fabulous homes in the Midlothian/Powhatan area. While all of the homes will offer creative ideas for redefining your overall home, they will also showcase festive holiday decorations by local designers. Area musicians and caterers will also provide music and gourmet treats.

What’s the Buzz? Protecting Pollinators Workshop from 1-3 p.m. Join Master Gardeners and the Richmond Audubon Society to learn about the beautiful birds that visit the area. The program is held at the Rockwood Nature Center, located in Chesterfield County’s Rockwood Park. Did you know that without a tiny little fly there would be no chocolate in the world? Or that bees can’t see the color red? Learn all about pollinators, the vital roles they play, and what you can do to protect them. This workshop includes a craft project to encourage pollinators in the backyard. A parent or guardian is required to accompany each child. Planning the Vegetable Garden from 2 -4 pm; Presented by Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, the free seminar held at Clover Hill Library, located at 6701 Deer Run Dr., focuses on planning now for delicious produce straight from the backyard. Pruning Crape Myrtle from 4-6 pm or 7-9 pm; Presented by Chesterfield County Cooperative Extension Master Gardeners, the free seminar held at Clover Hill Library, located at 6701 Deer Run Dr. Crape Myrtle will bloom longer and more vigorously when pruned correctly; learn the ‘how to’ with the help of an expert pruner. Everyone Needs a Home! Build a Birdhouse Workshop from 1-3 p.m. Join Master Gardeners and the Richmond Audubon Society to learn about the beautiful birds that visit the area.
