STONE, Douglas Lee

STONE, Douglas Lee, 56, of Midlothian, died September 8, 2009. Survivors include his wife, Patricia Stone; brother, David Lee Stone and his wife, Patti; nephew, Jason Lee Stone; and Lauren Lee Stone.

Doug was the co-owner and vice president of Stone’s Furniture House.

His remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday (today), and where funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to West End Assembly of God.

ROBERTSON, R. Bruce III

ROBERTSON, R. Bruce III, 52, of Chesterfield and Gwynn’s Island, lost his battle with cancer on Friday, September 4, 2009. He was preceded in death by his father, R.B. “Bobby” Robertson Jr. and grand-parents, Woodrow and Ilma Anderson. He is survived by his mother, Betty Anderson Robertson; sisters, Dora Lee Robertson and Mike Morse, Debbie A. Edwards and her husband, Joe, Bridget R. Posner and her husband, David; nieces and nephews, Brandon Sutton and his wife, Jamie, and their children, Lilli and Caleb, Joshua Sutton, Grace Edwards, Martin, Samuel, Andrew and Lacy Posner; devoted companion, Dawn Simmons; best friend, Jim Allen; his cherished 18 year old cat, Sydney; and numerous, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bruce was a retired procurement supervisor with Chesterfield County Utilities Department and was currently working at the Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. His funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday (today) at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). Interment will follow at Dale Memorial Park. Hill, Lemuel K.

HILL, Lemuel K., of Richmond, departed this life August 26, 2009. Preceded in death by his father, Edward Hill; and one brother, Travis I. “Lil Man” Hill. He is survived by his mother, Viola Hill; several children, four brothers, one devoted Tyrone; two sisters, one aunt, Viola Chambliss; several nieces, nephews, one devoted, Walternet Williams; one sister-in-law, other relatives and friends.

Remains rest at Mimms Funeral Home, 1827 Hull Street. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, September 2, 11 a.m. at Oakwood Cemetery. Family and friends assemble at the funeral home 10:15 a.m. Wednesday.

DUVAL, Walter Eugene “Gene”

DuVAL, Walter Eugene “Gene,” 56, of Chesterfield, died suddenly Saturday, August 29, 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maj. Hilary E. and Philippa S. DuVal. Gene is survived by his beloved companion, Georgia Deane; and her children, Georgia Dawn Hill and William K. Morris Jr.; sisters, Robin Clanton and Anne Edge; brothers, Louis (Rita), Hilary Jr. “Yogi” (Maryann) and John (Carol); numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with cousin and confident, Henry Liverman, he was an avid N.Y. Yankees and UNC basketball fan.

Gene found his calling as a salesman for Richmond Ford. He was a longtime softball coach with Falling Creek Athletic Association. Gene will be lovingly remembered as a storyteller and for his utmost kindness and generosity to all.

The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Church, 1400 Perry St., Richmond, Va. Interment will follow in Maury Cemetery.

BROWN, Davis G

BROWN, David G., age 85, of Chesterfield departed this life on August 25, 2009. He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth “Betty” of 61 years; four sons, David Jr. of Richmond, Gregory of Raleigh, N.C., Gary of Moseley, Va., and William of New Canaan, Conn.; six grandchildren, Brandon, Jason, Eric, Shane, Scott, and Christopher; one great-grandchild, Conner; and a host of relatives and friends.

David was born in Lexington, Va. where he spent most of his childhood. He then moved to New York/New Jersey for his educational years and received a Master’s in chemical engineering. He began his professional career as a chemist and raised his family in New Canaan, Conn. before retiring to Floyd, Va. where he enjoyed playing golf and working in the yard.

David was a veteran of WWII, serving his country as a 1st Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps and reserves until 1953. Besides his many years of hard work and his joy for golf, he was an avid fan of his Washington Redskins and Minnesota Twins teams. He also enjoyed playing softball even into his later years with his beloved “Chicken Street,” where he was fondly referred to as “the Count.” Also active with his Presbyterian Church group, Dave’s first love was his family and especially cherished his devoted and loving wife, Betty.

A private service will be held Friday, August 28, 2009 at the Cremation & Burial Society, 1927 Westmorland Street, Richmond Va. 23230, and he will be laid to rest near his birthplace in Lexington, Va. at a later date.

BELAIR-ORTEGA, Kristen, 32, of Chesterfield went to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 26, 2009. She is survived by her mother, Sandra J. Belair; father, Keith W. Belair; daughter, Julia C. Ortega; son, Evan E. Ortega; sister, Shelley L. Hachman; brother, K. William Belair.

There will be a celebration of Kristen’s life from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, at the Iron Bridge Baptist Church, 10900 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rt. 10). A graveside service will be held 2 p.m. Monday, at the Dale Memorial Park.

SINNOTT, Marie Ann Koch

SINNOTT, Marie Ann Koch, of Midlothian, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2009. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Sinnott; and a daughter, Ann Elizabeth Sinnott. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Gessner; her sons, Raymond J. Sinnott III, Michael A. Sinnott, Edward V. Sinnott and David J. Sinnott; a daughter-in-law, Pam Sinnott; eight grandchildren, Jessica and Allison Gessner, John “Jack” Sinnott, Raymond J. Sinnott IV, Brittany Sinnott, Matthew Sinnott, Michael Sinnott and John Anthony Jahoda; one great-grandchild, Raymond James Sinnott V; two brothers, George and Robert Koch; and her beloved dog, Bess.

In 1950, Marie graduated from Mary Immaculate Hospital School of Nursing in New York and was a dedicated RN for over 30 years. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Chesterfield Chapel of Bennett Funeral Home, 14301 Ashbrook Parkway. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 a.m. Monday at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, 8901 Winterpock Road. Marie will be laid to rest beside her late husband at Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Amelia.

HOYLMAN, Margaret Lee, of Chesterfield, Va., passed away after a lengthy illness on August 19, 2009. She was survived by her six children and eight beloved grand-children. VERNON, Sidney Howard

VERNON, Sidney Howard, 92, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 13, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Hilda Haden Vernon; daughter, Shirley Kellemen and her husband, Robert; son, Charles Vernon, and his wife, Christina; grandchildren, Joshua, Marie, Todd and Kyle; and sister, Emily Frazier. Mr. Vernon served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He spent over 45 years as a building renovation contractor in the Richmond area. He attended both Oak Grove and Berean Baptist Churches.

The family will receive friends 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

CARTER, Gene “Bobby” Autry

CARTER, Gene “Bobby” Autry, 67, of Chesterfield, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 12, 2009. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce Winder Carter; daughter, Stacy Carter Pew and her husband, Brent; sister, Lillie Bell Gay; brothers, Beale and Raymond Joseph Carter; grandchildren, Avery Elizabeth, Ashlyn Grace and Isabella Faith Pew. He was preceded in death by a sister, Geneva Lee; and a brother, Billy Lewis Carter.

Mr. Carter was the proprietor of the Carter Cement Company of Richmond. He came to the Lord Jesus Christ later in life. He served the Lord faithfully through his church for over 25 years. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday (today) at the Morrissett Funeral Home, 6500 Iron Bridge Rd. (Rte. 10). His funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Faith Memorial Baptist Church, 6202 Strathmore Road, Richmond. Interment will be held at 3 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church in Millers Tavern, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Faith Memorial Baptist Church.
