She is survived by her husband, Noble Manuel; her children, Nicholas, Kristine, Kristian and Ruby Manuel; her father, Linwood Adams and his wife, Brenda; beloved sister, Kathy Stevens and husband, Glenn; brother, Matthew Adams and wife, Tiffany; her grandmother, Mable Miller; and seven nieces and nephews. Her family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at Dale Memorial Park. Ailstock, Arthur Mason Published Jul 01, 2009 Ailstock, Arthur Mason Sr., 67, of Moseley, entered into rest Sunday, June 21, 2009. A native of Bath County, Virginia, he was the son of John Charles and Emma Hise Ailstock. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise Ailstock; daughters, Judy, Margaret, Betty, Mary, Barbara and Carolyn; a son Arthur M. Ailstock, Jr., 11 grandchildren, three brothers and a sister. A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, at Mount Hermon Baptist Church. Allen, Judy Shults “Beanie” Published Jul 18, 2009 ALLEN, Judy Shults “Beanie”, 60, of Chesterfield, died Saturday, July 18, 2009. She was the daughter of the late Bernard Clyde and Judy Webster Shults. Mrs. Allen retired from Chesterfield County after 32 years of service. Survivors include her fianc‚, Jon Bartle; daughter, Cynthia Allen Rice and husband, Mike, of Aylett, Virginia; son, Eric Loren Allen and wife, Shannon, of Colonial Heights; five grandchildren, Justin and Drew Rice, Jakob, Carter and Skyler Allen; sister, Jean C. White of Graham, North Carolina; two brothers, Bernard “Bun” C. Shults Jr. and wife, Susie, of Colonial Heights, and James Rex Shults of Chesterfield; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, July 21, 2009 at 1 p.m. in the Colonial Heights Chapel of the E. Alvin Small Funeral Home and Crematory, 2033 Boulevard. Anderson, Harmon Published Jul 02, 2009 ANDERSON, Harmon, 91, formerly of Laurel, Iowa, died at his daughter’s home in Midlothian, Va. on Thursday, July 2, 2009. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Estel-Perrin/Vogel Funeral Home in Marshall-town. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Garden. Harmon was born near Gilman and farmed in the Gilman/Laurel area his entire life, moving to Virginia in 2006. He was a member of the Gilman Community Church and active in many community organizations. He is survived by his wife, Doris, and daughters, Linda (Ron) Mayer of Midlothian, Va. and Carma (Rex) Armstrong of Indianola, Iowa; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Hazel Nicholl of Marshalltown. Anthony, Anne Gentry Published Jun 26, 2009 Anthony, Anne Gentry, age 89, of Chesterfield, passed away June 25, 2009. She was the widow of Earl Douglas Anthony of 43 years of marriage. She is survived by her daughter, Carol Rockwell; and her son-in-law, Lynn. Mrs. Anthony was retired from the Southland Corporation and a lifetime member of Branch’s Baptist Church. Her remains rest at Bliley’s-Chippenham, 6900 Hull Street Rd., where the family will receive friends 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, and where funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Marie; his children and their spouses, Ann Lewis (Emmett), Beverley Harper (Howard), and Oscar H. Jr. (Darlene); his brother, William Anthony; two sisters, Clara Castleberry and Helen Frith; 11 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Apple, David Bryan Published Jan 05, 2010 APPLE, David Bryan, 40, of Chesterfield County, departed this life far too soon as a result of a tragic accident on January 1, 2010. He was born September 9, 1969 in Richmond, Va. David is survived by two children, Cari K. Apple, age 22, and Bryan T. Apple, age 15, both of Richmond, Va; grandson, Lucas S. Adams; his mother and father, Barbara J. Apple and Hubert Apple Jr.; two brothers, Darren W. Apple and Daniel R. Apple; sister-in-law, Sandra S. Apple; and his girlfriend, Joyce Rivers; niece, Jennifer Apple - Hinton; and nephew, Christian Apple. David was a graduate of Meadowbrook High School (Class of ‘89) and attended Emmanuel College. David was the Eastern Regional Sales Manager for Miller Edge Corp. of West Grove, Pa. and had worked previously as Sales Manager for his family’s business, Apple Door Systems, Inc. David treasured his children, his family, his girlfriend and his strong Christian faith. David had a wonderful sense of humor and made people laugh wherever he went. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and always rooted for UVA. David was a talented musician and played the trumpet, drums and guitar. In his job, he always sought innovative ways to market his products and build long- term relationships. He was loved dearly by his family and friends and his loss will be felt for a very long time. ARCHER, Dr. John Stanard Jr. Published Jan 05, 2010 ARCHER, Dr. John Stanard Jr., of Richmond, Va., died December 28, 2009. Born May 25, 1917, to the late John Stanard Archer and Jeanette Baird Jacob Archer. Preceded in death by his wife, Helen Kirtley Archer and sister, Lloyd Archer Kanary. He is survived by six children, Glen Enochs and husband, James; Elizabeth O’Ferrall and husband, McLain; John Archer lll and wife, Len; Cynthia Montague and husband, Peter; Tad Archer; Fielding Archer and wife, Meredyth; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Stanard graduated from the University of Virginia, where he was a member of the Chi Phi fraternity, and the Medical College of Virginia, where he did his residency in otolaryngology. He was a former staff member of the Richmond Eye Ear Nose and Throat Hospital; volunteer physician at McGuire Veterans Hospital and the Virginia State Penitentiary. A World War ll veteran, he was an army captain in the 70th field hospital attached to the Flying Tigers. Stanard served on the Vestry at St. James’s Episcopal Church, the board of the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities and as President of the Parents Council of the Virginia Military Institute. “Poppy,” as he was known by his grandchildren, was a kind, wonderful and talented person who was loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 5 at St. James’s Episcopal Church. ARMSTEAD, Joseph “Joe” Andrew Published Jan 05, 2010 ARMSTEAD, Joseph “Joe” Andrew, died on Saturday, January 2, 2010 at MCV Hospital. He was eight years old. Joseph was born April 9, 2001 in Chesterfield, Virginia. His parents are Kristina O. and Clifton Lee Armstead Jr. of Midlothian. In addition to his parents, Joseph is survived by his older brother, Clifton “Tripp” Lee Armstead III; his paternal great-grandmothers, Magdalene Armstead of Richmond and Elizabeth Reynolds of Midlothian; his maternal grandparents, Ellen J. Otto and Robert J. Otto, both of Orange, Va.; his paternal grandparents, Gloria Jean and Clifton Lee Armstead Sr. of Midlothian; his two aunts, Kirsten Otto Samuels and her husband, Charles, of Rapidan, Va. and Sharonda Lewis and her husband, Donnie, of Midlothian; one uncle, Andrew H. Otto of Orange; three cousins, Corinn and Koron Lewis of Midlothian and Charlotte G. Samuels of Rapidan; two very special childhood friends, Steven and Zach Newsome of Midlothian; a whole host of other uncles, aunts, cousins and family friends too numerous to mention; and his favorite dog, Casey. Joseph was a third grade student at J. B. Watkins Elementary School in Mrs. Behnke’s class. He loved school, his teachers and all of his school friends, especially Logan Georgel. Joseph played flag football and always watched the Dallas Cowboys with his dad and brother. He loved going to the beach every summer and was an accomplished boogie-boarder. When he wasn’t running, playing and having lots of fun, Joseph loved to snuggle up for a little quiet time with his mama. Joseph had a wonderful sense of humor, a beautiful smile and a wise, old soul. He was creative and inquisitive, thoughtful and kind, full of spunk and mischief. Joseph’s loving heart and amazing generosity of spirit was demonstrated by his wish to donate his organs. Joseph was loved dearly by his family and friends and his loss will be felt for a very long time. The family will receive friends at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, followed by a Prayer Service starting at 7 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Drive.
