The Dominion District regular season girls’ basketball champion Cosby team earned a bid to the tournament final Wednesday night with a 73-47 win over Monacan. Though an obviously ailing Jazmin Pitts spent some time on the bench icing a sore shoulder, she made her presence felt in the paint with seven rebounds and four blocks.

Becca Wann made her presence known from the get-go. She aided in the Titans’ first points of the game with a crisp pass to Pitts on the post and scored eight of Cosby’s 16 first-quarter points.

Monacan scored the first basket of the game with a 3-pointer from Raven Williams, but the Chiefs managed just one other basket in the first quarter and fell behind 16-5 heading into the second.

Though a trap defense by Monacan forced five Cosby turnovers in the second quarter, the Titans never trailed and will face Huguenot in the Dominion District Tournament final on Friday night at 6 p.m. at Cosby High School.

Wann led Cosby with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists; Pitts added 16 points; and Andrea Bertrand put up 15 points.

Williams led Monacan with 22 points.

In the other girls’ semifinal game, No. 3 Huguenot upset No. 2 L.C. Bird 57-48.

Trylanda Jennings led the Huguenot effort with 21 points; Jeanette Cousins added 10 rebounds and five blocks; and Ty Bender had 10 points and 10 assists.

Victoya Ricks led the Skyhawks with 18 points and 10 rebounds. Porsha Buchanan added 11 points and five assists.
