Flying Squirrels to unveil mascot, uniforms Published: February 08, 2010 Content courtesy of the Richmond Flying Squirrels The Richmond Flying Squirrels will unveil the identity of the club’s mascot and hold a fashion show to showcase the team’s uniforms at 2 p.m. at the Byrd Theater on Thursday, Feb. 11. The event is free and open to the public. The Flying Squirrels will employ the services of local sports media personalities Chip Tarkenton of WRIC, Lane Casadonte of WTVR, Wes McElroy of Sports Radio 910, and Greg Burton of ESPN 950 as celebrity models for the uniform fashion show. The team will also honor winners of its art contest. The team’s official art contest gave elementary school students in the greater Richmond area the opportunity to have their artwork displayed permanently on the concourse at The Diamond during the 2010 season. The students created artwork based on the theme: Baseball is Funn Because. The artwork will be displayed on 15 separate 4- x 9-foot panels on the main concourse of The Diamond. The event will also feature a special performance of “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” by the first grade students at Bon Air Elementary as well as award-winning, local singer and songwriter Susan Greenbaum performing the “Flight Song” inspired by the Flying Squirrels. |
