The JV Swift Creek Miners Select Lacrosse Team, sponsored by Commonwealth Youth Lacrosse Association (CYLA), finished their third winning spring season with an impressive 16-3 record against the top competition in the area. This included victories over Saint Anne’s Belfield (STAB) and the JV Williamsburg Lacrosse club, which was Williamsburg’s only loss of the season.

The Miners play a diverse group of teams ranging from the local public schools (Douglas Freeman, Godwin, and Deep Run) to private schools (St. Christopher, Benedictine, and Woodberry Forest). The Miners are represented by 22 underclassmen, from multiple local public schools, who will compete at the varsity level next spring. The JV Miners will compete this summer in the Summer Slam (Richmond), Summer Exposure (Annapolis), Southern Sizzle (Charlotte, N.C.), and Summer Sizzle Tournament (Belcamp, Md.) giving them national exposure to college recruiting.

The Miners support player development in the younger age divisions, such as the U15 Miners team, and create opportunities to play at the highest competitive level. The U15 Miners will also compete in Summer Slam, Southern Sizzle, Summer Sizzle, and a youth tournament in Greensboro, N.C. this summer. Tryouts for the Miners teams for spring 2010 will be held in early fall 2009.

In addition to sponsoring the Miners, CYLA (Swift Creek Lacrosse) just hosted one of the largest boys’ lacrosse tournaments in the Southeast on May 30-31 at Clover Hill Athletic Complex. The tournament comprised 64 teams competing in four age brackets. Multiple states were represented along the East Coast.

CYLA also offers a recreational league, started in the fall of 2002 growing to over 500 boys from all areas of Chesterfield County and surrounding counties. Age divisions range from U7 through U19. Registration is open to all levels of play from beginner to advance during either the fall or spring seasons. CYLA also offers opportunities to play in indoor leagues during the late fall/winter months.

Visit the CYLA Web site or call the office at (804) 744-5060 for more information.
