Volleyball sign ups slated Published: August 12, 2010 Content courtesy of Tim Holt/MAVC One of the few non-profit volleyball leagues in Midlothian is now the first middle school and freshman club in the area. The Mid-Atlantic Volleyball Club was founded by a group of local parents in 2008 who are dedicated to promoting the sport of volleyball. “We saw a need for students who were very interested in advancing their athletic skills before going to high school.,” said Tim Holt, the organization’s co-director of operations. “Volleyball in local high schools is highly competitive. Some schools have over 80 students trying for 24 spots.” The Mid-Atlantic Volleyball Club has over 20 coaches, many of whom have played at the collegiate and professional level. The program was designed to give kids and young adults the skills and understanding of volleyball and teamwork to help them advance in both athletic and social settings. “It is important for kids and young adults to realize that they can work in a team setting to accomplish individual and team goals,” Holt said. Sign-ups and open gym will be held August 16, 19 and 23 at the facility located at 7508 Whitepine Road in Richmond.
