PHOENIX, Ariz. – USA National Field Hockey Festival is the biggest amateur field hockey event in the world. There were 147 U19 teams playing in 21 pools and 49 U16 teams playing in 7 pools at this year’s Festival representing 29 states and 4 countries, which resulted in a high level of competition and entertainment for over 3,500 athletes and their families.

Trim the Turkey 5K set for Nov. 26

Want to enjoy a filling Thanksgiving feast this year without worrying about your waistline?  Then, you might make plans to participate in the Trim the Turkey 5K and Kids’ 1-Mile Fun Run on Saturday, Nov. 26 at Midlothian Athletic Club to shave off some of those extra calories.

2011 is the inaugural year for Trim the Turkey, but longtime Chesterfield residents may remember the Turkey Trot wellness event that Midlothian Athletic Club sponsored in previous years.

King of Diamonds play benefit game for Miracle League of Richmond

The popular softball exhibition team King of Diamonds, formerly the King and His Court, came to Chesterfield County, Sunday, Oct. 23 and played a benefit game for the Miracle League of Richmond.

The four-man team took on a local nine-person team at the L.C. Bird High School Sports Complex, including Todd Parney, Vice President and COO of the Richmond Flying Squirrels and Holly-Thomas Stargardt of Cosby High School.

Challenger tournament teaches more than baseball

It’s not hard to find inspiration on a hot Saturday morning, if you know just where to look.

Eight teams from the Challenger League gathered at the Atlee Youth Sports Complex on Whippoorwill Road this past weekend for its first annual tournament.

JR lacrosse places seven on all-district
May 26, 2011

In a rebuilding year for the James River Varsity Lacrosse team, the Rapids were honored with seven players making the VHSL Western Valley All-District team.  With first-year coach Rob Helsley leading the program the Rapids struggled early in the season to find their form. Teamwork brought the players together to finish strong, beating Mills Godwin in the season finale to make the district playoffs.

Pickleball and Survival Boot Camp at Rockwood Park

The Chesterfield County Department of Parks and Recreation is offering two opportunities for adults to get moving at Rockwood Park this summer. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, 8-11 a.m. and 6-8:30 p.m. (weather permitting), come out and try pickleball. Evergreen boys are champions

The Evergreen Eagles Boys Minors Division B team won the regular season title – suffering its lone defeat by just one point in a game in which it played most of the fourth quarter with only three players – and also claimed the Chesterfield Basketball League A-B Tournament championship.

Evergreen girls complete perfect season

The Evergreen Eagles girls Intermediate Division A basketball team completed a second consecutive undefeated season by winning both the regular season and tournament championships in the Chesterfield Girls Basketball League.

Weaver cheerleaders earn trophies

Cheerleaders representing Weaver Athletic Association recently won two trophies at the 24th annual Chesterfield Cheer League Spectacular held at Meadowbrook High School.

Weaver’s combined Junior/Senior team, coached by Sallie Levitch and Valerie Crowder with help from teen coaches Ellen Sowder, Sammy Barock, Melanie Cooper and Mary Swagger, took first place in the AA Division.

Dodgeball tournament will benefit charities

It’s time for Richmond-area residents to once again duck and dodge to raise money for great charitable causes and to win prizes – such as free Chick-fil-A food for one year – at the Sixth-Annual Chick-fil-A Charity Dodgeball Tournament.
